I'll be real: this interview series is an excuse for me to pick the brains of authors whose books I admire.
Some of them are friends who get late night dms from me saying "HOW DID YOU DO THIS THING?" when I'm reading their newest work. Others are authors of books I loved–and I wanted to know how they approached the work. That's all. Any genre or experience level is fair game. Interviews are by invitation.
We are not here to talk about stating the theme on page 17 or hitting a particular story beat on page 50 or how to fill out character sheets (though some of us use those!). This is not that kind of craft chat.
I am not a big believer in the rules for storytelling (for so many reasons), but I love to ponder how stories work or don't work, how they come to be, what they reflect about us and each other and the world, where they've pulled influences and what they'll influence going forward. Where cultural stories about narrative functions help or hinder the creative process. Big ideas. Deep craft.
Interviews for season one will release once a month, beginning this fall.
