August 2025 News and Updates

Sending everyone, wherever you are, a lot of love and strength. I've been trying to balance checking in with loved ones and taking breaks from news/doomscrolls and doing what I can, where I can. I hope you are safe, and surrounded by community, and reaching out where you can, too.

I'm settling into life in Ireland and starting to get a routine together. My pampered suburban canines are learning to be city dogs, my teen starts school next week, my spouse is off to work every morning, and I have a desk with a planner and calendar. It's starting to feel like real life and not a blissfully long holiday. We are still going to the beach every chance we get. Eventually, I will also go the mountains, which are almost as nearby as the beach, but I had decades of big mountains and no water. I am obsessed with the sea right now. This newsletter was almost twenty pictures of the same shoreline on different days.

The relief and joy I feel to be here is equal only to the rage and sorrow I have about leaving.

All of my research and notes for the Synchronists series are in a box on a container somewhere between Denver and Dublin (oops), so I'm working on some other projects while I wait for our shipment to arrive–I'll be reviving my urban fantasy vampire serial some time next year and I have a novel set in the Slip universe in planning. I might be writing a Paradis/Dorun novella. It will likely release on my website in the future.

I'm also working on a series of chat interviews with other authors on the deep craft of writing. I am so excited for this–posts will launch on my website some time this autumn.
